It’s almost like some sort of ad campaign and they knew they would make money by creating controversy 🤔
Na, they probably just really like BLM and didn’t care about the backlash the as would cause
Nike decided which side of history it wanted to be on. Nike decided to reach out to its future customer base (young people) rather than trying to hold on to the dying out generations.
Yes, profit was a motive. That’s okay. Once corporate America says there’s money to be made, the movement will take off. Look how quickly the LGBTQ rights movement has gotten momentum.
At least Kaepernick has another platform now. And he’s getting paid again so that he can continue his remarkable charity work.
And the problem people have with this situation stems from Global Capitalism. Yes, Nike has horribly unethical business practices, but so do countless other companies. It’s literally impossible to buy everything ethically-made unless you buy literally everything homemade.
So just fucking be happy for Kaepernick and the leg-up this movement has been given. No one is 100% good 100% of the time. Be happy that Nike took a step toward fighting for minorities in this country. Baby steps.
And we can still keep trying to dismantle our Capitalist system, which will actually help to solve the problems of unethical business practices.
It can be both.
I have never seen someone use a boot as a lollipop so enthusiastically.
There is no way Nike would have done this if it did not benefit them. They aren’t going to be on the “right side of history” for incorporating social movements in to their ad campaign. They are not going to be “the right side of history” while using slavery.
Nike isn’t a human, and cannot be moral, they can’t be good. They are not supporting anything. They are going against the movements by trivialising them. They are doing the exact same thing pepsi did with their revolution advert.
There may be no ethical consumption under capitalism but that doesn’t mean that I am going to condone it.
