I am fairly sure there are other explanatory factors for a dropping life expectancy, such as skyrocketing obesity rates and no one exercising enough. There’s not much evidence that increases in the quantity of working hours is linked to a dropping life expectancy.

ya ever hear of researching shit before you embarrass yourself?

it’s also funny that u would imply that people not getting enough exercise is in no way linked to people working longer hours

There is literally a Japanese word for working yourself to death because it became that prevalent.

Here’s a video detailing karōshi, if you prefer videos to articles (the section on

karōshi starts at 0:30 and ends at 3:05):

You can also watch this documentary on Netflix entitled Happy, by Director Roko Belic, which has a section dedicated to karōshi, about 30 minutes in. Not only is the work ethic killing Japanese people, but it is leading to record low levels of happiness, making Japan one of the least happy places to live. (The Netflix version doesn’t have subtitles for the Japanese parts, but it basically is saying how this father was never home, leading his daughter to not really remember him. And, eventually, he died from stress, at a reasonably young age, leaving his wife to look after their daughter. Even while alive, I believe his wife said that he was never really happy, and was tired all the time.)

So yeah. Don’t say how overworking yourself can’t lead to death. This took maybe 5 minutes to look up, excluding the knowledge about the documentary, but I learned that in a college class.
