left-wingers: cool, lets expand that sentiment by allowing people to control the spaces they occupy and doing away with landlordism

The landlords: buying this place costs 10 times your rent and you become responsible for all the upkeep.

Upkeep costs less than rent – the difference is the landlord’s profit. If the tenants don’t pay rent they can more than afford upkeep
Besides, tenants usually have to pay for upkeep anyway, regardless of what the landlord is supposed to be doing.
this is very much a thing in Stockholm and Sweden in general and let me tell you you have a whole lot of shit to figure out before tenants owning their homes is going to be in any way helpful to the common man because while owning your apartment is hella convenient and generally Good for the person in question it is also radically expensive and only makes gentrification and housing gaps more prominent.
