The famous phrase “loose lips sink ships” didn’t originate during world war 1 as a euphemism to speaking American military secrets out loud in earshot of German spies, rather it meant speaking out loud about imaginary controversial celebrity romantic relationships, “ships”, like the popular “poe-x-twain” would cause normies to freak out about it, thus ruining the popularity of the ship.

President Woodrow Wilson, being an avid fan fic reader, picked up on the phrase instantly.

Of course president Wilson being a wincest shipper himself he avoided any hard inquiry on where he came up with such a good good phrase that just so happened to also go good for the navy.

Oh fuck, now that I’ve got the image of Poe and Twain in my filthy little head, I totally ship it!
