Some security plans for Unite The Right 2 got leaked on Twitter and too many people were mocking how terribly made this
is rather than talking about the fact that fascists are actively
planning and developing tactics to straight up kidnap antifascists in
the street.
Going to the gym solo and showing up with a few
comrades and hoping other people will be there and fascists will break
and run from confrontation isn’t going to work anymore. Times are
changing. If you’re serious about directly confronting fascists in the
street you’re gonna need predetermined plans and strategy and yes point
people. Decentralized non-hierarchical mob tactics in a chaotic street
brawl against organized fascists isn’t gonna do anything but get people
arrested at best and killed at worst.
This
is basically existing police snatch squad tactics- the crossbow. Yes,
antifascists absolutely need to study and understand mass group tactics.
So, two things. One,
the American fascist movement is, as a general rule, a paper tiger
which has a history of melting in the face of literally any opposition
at all. They don’t want confrontation, they don’t want a fight, they
want to hurt people, without
consequences or risk of repercussions. They are the schoolyard bully
that whines ‘no fair’ when their victims hit back. In a street fight
they’re more likely to run away, and come back later in small groups to
harass isolated stragglers.
Two, while keeping this
in mind, we need to organize and plan our defense as if they are 100%
willing and able to mount a serious challenge, because there are
exceptions to every rule, and if we do not prepare for those exceptions
there will come a time when a lot of our people get hurt or killed. Preparing for the way things usually are instead of the way things could potentially be is a recipe for failure.
Okay. So what are we gonna do? Are we gonna have a plan?

From a strategic standpoint? It may be possible cede ground at the center and draw them into a pincer to break their formation. In urban settings smaller teams are more effective than a larger unit. Groups of 4 to 5 acting independently as part of a larger plan.
The biggest problem most of the left has is a lack of the necessary training. Small unit tactics and rigorous martial arts training should be the staple of any resistance movement. Doesn’t really matter which art- the content you bring to your performance of it is what will count.
You can probably find groups who are already studying in this way if you dig for anarchist or antifascist groups in your area. Not all of them are public- many of them don’t want to be found. You may have to start your own. Failing that, direct community outreach is one of the greatest weapons for resistance building. Know who lives near you. Talk to them but be sure to LISTEN to them. Help them when you can. Encourage them to do the same. Any effective opposition to a capitalist police state will start at the ground level. (Sidenote: this is one of the reasons our culture has transitioned so heavily toward a working class which only rents space and does not own property: it’s extremely difficult to do community work when the population is constantly shifting from one area to another. Capitalism has been very effective in alienating people from each other at the neighborhood and city level.)
If you do organize under a anarchist, socialist, or communist banner and you practice any form of community work in conjunction with martial arts or firearms training, be extremely wary of interactions with police. We haven’t forgotten what they did to the Black Panthers.
Nazi’s pretty much use outdated riot squad tactics and I agree with others have said. Strong communities are important both in terms of affinity groups and becoming the geography. My favorite demos tend to have somekind of moveable barricade (even reinforced banners work pretty well) out front of the mass.
Outnumber, Surprise, Overwhelm. The myth of the “maddening crowd” has always been in our favor.
