So in a move that shouldn’t surprise anybody, now that the Democrats have the House they’ve started making noise about cooperating with Trump’s regime and “finding common ground,” as if our problem was “divisiveness” rather than the fact that our government is run by an ultranationalist reality tv star and his cronies. So, to add a little world-historical perspective, here’s an ominous warning:

When Adolph Hitler campaigned for executive power in Weimar Germany, he went up against von Hindenburg, the moderate incumbent heavily favored to win. Hindenburg, however, was a wet blanket with a spine made of jello, and so Thallman, an independent candidate from the KDP, tried to warn Germany’s voters that “a vote for Hindenburg is a vote for Hitler.”

Hindenburg won, of course. And, as Thallman predicted, so too did Hitler win.
