San Francisco, 1992 – LGBT Wobblies picket outside the EndUp following the lockout of several janitors who were attempting to unionize. LGBT workers fought throughout the early 1990s to organize the EndUp, and won a settlement from the bosses – who apparently feared a loss in court of a suit brought against them by workers fired for attempting to unionize – in the middle of the decade. A 1995 IWW report read:

As a ruling caste, gay establishment bosses simultaneously maintain a stranglehold on the community’s resources while simultaneously proclaiming that “we’re all family.” Fiercely anti-union, gay bar owners also publish the local gay papers and own the boutiques in “our” neighborhood, where sometimes we get to work.
