and the weirdest twist is that of all the people in the world, Tucker fucking Carlson is supporting this as well
Okay I’m scratching my head at this twist tbh
Right wing populists will pick up random talking points from Bernie because they know he clicks well with working class whites. But then the next segment after tucker Carlson talking about amazon being bad is tucker Carlson talking about abortion being bad so like…… yeah don’t give him too much credit
Tucker Carlson is acting as a sort of Crypto-Strasserite, sublimating a leftist critique into a fascist framework. This is evident in the particularities of how he describes this. His opposition to Amazon is firmly conservative, in that it effectively targets a particularly egregious capitalist entity that is not particularly known for its conservatism by discussing its capitalist excesses in terms that specifically are reappropriated into right-wing ideology. Amazon is made to be the exception, ignoring just how many working-class families rely on government assistance, welfare, other government programs.
He cares not for the workers, but rather for the ephemeral, vanishing spectre of the “taxpayer” as such. By looking to a specifically individualized concept of “tech billionaires” operating firmly within the principles of the market, the capitalist class as a whole is spared. Thus, job creation is retained as a good, the codification of capitalist power is good, fascism must still go on, but it must be a fascism that cares for its white workers. And these are the grounds on which Carlson stakes his opposition to Bezos.
It is yet another fool’s socialism, and the way in which one will eventually see convergence in the reception of Carlson’s message and similar antisemitic ideology about global finance (an individualizing process of antisemitism that denies the actual structure at hand, instead presents the transhistorical violence of antisemitism) in attempting to appeal to the exact sort of working class figure that could indeed be radicalized.
